Brian Lock, Publicity Chair, Past General Chairman, and Past President, GCAGS
Brian E. Lock, who is currently a Professor of Geology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, was born in England and earned his degrees from Cambridge University, England. After receiving his Ph. D. he worked as a consultant for Norske Fina in the European Arctic. Subsequently, Brian taught at Rhodes University in South Africa for 7 years. In August of 1977, he became an Associate Professor of Geology at USL, now ULL, where he has served as Department Head from 1991 - 2004. He has published over 100 papers in technical journals. He has worked with oil companies developing prospects, has aided South Louisiana salt mining companies develop a better understanding of salt stocks, and has taught a number of industry short courses. Brian belongs to a number of geological societies including AAPG and SEPM. In 1991, Brian was a member of the first group to receive the GCAGS Outstanding Educator Award. In the same year he received the GCSSEPM Best Paper Award and in 1995 he and co-author Mary Broussard received the AAPG A. I. Levorsen Award. In 1996, he was presented the Grover E. Murray Memorial Distinguished Educator Award. |

Mary Broussard, GCAGS 2006 General Chairman
Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mary received a B.S. degree in geology and geophysics from the University of Tulsa. After graduating in 1984 with her undergraduate degree, Mary moved to Tyler, Texas to work for Ward Exploration processing east Texas seismic data. She later went to work for Marathon Oil Company in Lafayette, Louisiana from 1987-2000 and received her Master’s degree in geology, while working full-time. After spending a short time working for Unocal, Mary went on to work for Stone Energy in 2001 and has been there since, working as a geophysicist. Her present focus is working deepwater exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. Mary is most proud of her four year old daughter Katherine and husband Stan. Other than being very involved in the Lafayette Geological Society and the GCAGS, Mary loves to spend most of her time gardening, traveling, and coming up with any excuse to spend time outdoors. |

Amanda Masterson, Publications Committee Chair
Amanda manages the GCAGS Bookstore, housed at UT’s Bureau of Economic Geology in Austin, Texas. The Bookstore carries each year’s Transactions volumes in book and CD formats, as well as various products issued by nine GCAGS member societies (GCS-SEPM, Alabama, Austin, Corpus Christi, Houston, Lafayette, Mississippi, New Orleans, and South Texas). Amanda worked briefly for Shell Oil Company in Houston and then began her 30-year career at the Bureau of Economic Geology, where she has been a proofreader, editor, Web administrator, bookstore manager, and Reading Room supervisor. Amanda succeeds previous Publications Chairman Doug Ratcliff, who resigned in 2006; her fellow Publications Committee member is Ed Picou.

Kenneth “Ken” E. Nemeth, Vice President, GCAGS
Ken has 31 years experience in the petroleum industry, working as an explorationist and as a software support specialist. He has visited wells across the Gulf Coast and in Mississippi, West Texas, and New Mexico. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Albion College (Michigan) and a Master’s degree from the University of Texas (Austin). He began his career with Shell Oil Co. in 1976. Through several career moves (his own and industry’s decisions) he began work with Schlumberger in 1998 in Dallas, TX. He transferred to Houston in 1999 where he supports geological and geophysical interpretation software applications. Ken has been active in local and sectional societies as an officer and committee chairman. He was President and Secretary for the Dallas Geological Society. He was chairman of the steering committee responsible for starting the Ellison Miles GeoScience Technology Institute at Brookhaven College in Dallas. He served as Secretary for the Southwest Section AAPG (’98-99). He served two terms as Treasurer for the Houston Geological Society. He has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award from both the Dallas and the Houston Geological Societies.

Gloria D. Sprague, Vice President, GCAGS
Gloria has 26 years experience working the Gulf Coast as a geologist, with a concentration in Texas onshore. Gloria received her B.S. in geology (1980), and her M.S. in geology from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1982. She started her oil and gas career in 1982 with Sun Oil Company in Corpus Christi, Texas, and worked with them for six years. Since that time she has been actively exploring the Gulf Coast with various companies and as an independent. In 2003 she formed her own company, Crossroads Exploration. Gloria has been active in the Corpus Christi Geological Society having held every office including President in 1996-1997. She also served as General Chairman for the 1998 GCAGS held in Corpus Christi, is currently an AAPG delegate, and member of the AAPG Education Committee. For her efforts she received the GCAGS Distinguished Service Award in 1999. However she considers her greatest achievement her two daughters, and her thirty-three marriage to her husband, Bill.
